SAN Traffic Management Tips

San Diego-Lindbergh Runway Selection:

KSAN Noise Abatement curfew (departures only) from 2330L to 0630L. At 0630L the departure bank will depart runway 27 if winds allow, for approximately 30 minutes.

Thereafter, the following will be used to determine the runway selection:

1. Runway 27 is the preferred runway if ceilings and visibility allow.
2. Runway 09 should be selected when the wind is aligned with the runway or when KSAN is below runway 27 minimums and winds allow.

Note: Assign the runway most nearly aligned with the wind when 5 knots or more. Reference−FAA Order JO 7110.65, Para 3-5-1 Runway Selection.

   Opposite direction requests will likely see extensive delays. Since every contingency cannot be covered, runway selection can be changed at any time based on current conditions.


Runway 9/27 operations place increased pressure on SAN Tower, SCT and ZLA to balance the arrival/departure demand due to head on operations.
