RSW Traffic Management Tips

Configurations:

RSW has only one runway so configurations are limited to RWY 06 or RWY 24. RWY 06 is the preferred runway and is in use 85% of the time.

Airport Challenges:

RSW is volume limited due to the single runway but capacity is rarely attained. The airport has no run-up/holding pads, high speed turn offs or runway end feeder taxiways. There is very limited ramp space for holding aircraft with departure delays or diverted unscheduled aircraft.

Seasonal Traffic:

Like other south Florida airports, facility traffic increases about 100% during the winter as compared with summer. The peak traffic months are January - April. The traffic handled by RSW TRACON experiences similar traffic issues and is the bigger concern during "season". RSW South Radar position handles the traffic for APF (Naples) and MKY (Marco Island) and remains extremely busy during the peak traffic season, particularly holiday weekends.
