MHT Traffic Management Tips

Arrivals:

MHT cannot run DCIA approaches when operating in CENRAP.

MHT is very sensitive to less than optimum conditions; when conditions are not optimum (due to closed runways, bad weather etc.) the acceptance rate is reduced significantly.

Because the tower must provide visual separation, ILS RWY 15R circle to RWY 4L operations require the weather to be approximately 1500/4-5 (this may vary slightly).

There is no instrument approach to RWY 4L or RWY 22R. These runways have strict noise abatement procedures.

General:

When strong northeast winds require the use of RWY 33L/R, MHT is essentially on a single runway operation. This is due to two factors:
  1. In most cases MHT will be unable to use RWY 27 for departures.
  2. RWY 33R is only 2500 feet long and the majority of arrivals will not accept it - typically only 3 to 4 arrivals per hour will accept it.
As a result, the AAR will be 34 even in VFR conditions.
Similar circumstances exist for RWY 15 L/R operations, resulting in an AAR of 36.

On Fridays and Sundays, during the summer months, MHT has a large volume of VFR traffic to and from Cape Cod.

When ZBW is in holding for MHT or N90, much of the holding traffic drops off of the ASD.
